FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
What is the Racial Literacy Virtual Institute like?
The Racial Literacy Virtual Institute is a unique environment where you gain the most access to concepts and practical applications of Racial Literacy. Throughout the day we move from large group gatherings to small group discussions for more individualized learning environments. We engage in storytelling, journaling, and debating to give you as many opportunities to develop your skills during your time at Institute.
How much does RLVI Cost?
RLVI is $1,200 per person.
What should I have prepared for RLVI?
You will receive a pre-work email a few days before the first session so you will have everything needed for Institute.
Now that Institute is happening virtually, how will this compare to previous Institutes?
Intentional off-screen moments
Self-guided “me work”/activities
More flexibility
Open conversation with Dr. Howard Stevenson
Optional but highly recommended restorative post-institute activities
Are you able to receive CEUs, ACT 48, or any other certifications for this?
We are not able to validate those certifications at this time.
Agenda
What time will the Institute take place?
Events are scheduled from 12:00-3:00pm EST daily with optional (but highly encouraged) activities from 3:15-4:15pm EST.
Do I have to stay online the entire time?
The work that we do is intimate, collaborative, and can be intense. We use all our time together to teach, learn, and work with one another so we are all able to move forward in our skill development. The time goes by quickly but we do provide opportunities for breaks and encourage everyone to take care of themselves however they feel is appropriate.
What if I have to miss a portion of the training?
All participants are expected to attend the full required schedule of events for Racial Literacy Virtual Institute. While we recognize life may cause interruptions, our priority is the well-being of all participants. Due to the emotionally charged nature of our work, missing even one session can affect the efficacy of the curriculum and the overall dynamic of the participant's small group.
If a participant has missed or anticipates missing more than one required session or a portion of a required session, it will be up to the discretion of Lion's Story staff to determine if that participant is able to continue attending the Racial Literacy Virtual Institute. If they miss the first session, then they will automatically be unable to participate in the remaining sessions and will not receive a refund.
